What Advanced Readers Are Saying About "A Free Spirited Modern Day Hippie"
From Opal's birth through her life she is constantly dealing with turmoil. This large book takes you inside the mind of how one becomes homeless, by choice nonetheless. I really enjoyed reading of her travels and the hard knock life she lived in the end.
- Mary G.
When I first read this book, I admired it as a work of art, but its impact on me was unexpected. So many individuals abandon their jobs to hit the road, become hippies or beatniks, and give up everything else. However, I had been absolutely involved with hippie culture when I read it, and it prompted me to steer away from it for a period as well.
-G. Jorge
I would highly recommend this book. It helps to bring compassion and understanding toward others. I often wondered how any person would want to be homeless, and how they get there in their life. And when the train passes by is touching. Always a story!

BIO
Before graduating and attending college in Boston, I grew up in a small, rural village in Western Pennsylvania. My roommate would come home from school disguised as a homeless person and spend the day panhandling; it was my first taste of a different way of life. Although I was not homeless, it was my first encounter with homelessness, the less fortunate, and how they survived and traveled. Those visions lingered in my mind for nearly fifty years. I've had numerous jobs during my life, one of which was as a pilot. In January 2004, I was operating an airplane when it crashed into the woods, with my flight instructor and daughter onboard. My good buddy Jim, with whom I had grown up from infancy to adulthood, had written several novels and had often pushed me to write my narrative. I discovered in college that I enjoyed writing short tales, and my term research paper achieved high marks from numerous professors, but I didn't consider myself an author. Because Jim refused to give up, I wrote N1XF Is Going Down, a story about the plane accident. Within two days of submitting my manuscript, it was picked up by a publishing company. Now that I am a retired airline pilot, it is time for me to accomplish exactly that. As a child, I recall my father taking me to the local airport to watch planes land or the local switch tower to watch trains arrive. It aided in the development of a passion for transportation, so I've blended my experiences from infancy to my first exposure to large city life, to learning the New York way by marrying a Brooklyn native, and how to negotiate the conflicts of rural America and big-city America. That is the basis for my cozy mystery story of "A Free-Spirited Modern-Day Hippie" coming in November 2024
